So, come on particpate in our active sporting community - get fit and have fun!
[April 2007] Swest.info has found that Somerset West is seriously addicted to Sport and we love it! There’s nothing like an energetic and dedicated community to keep this town active.
It's the Cricket World Cup, and we know you are glued to your TV's, but it's time to get out there and enjoy the world of sport first-hand. So we are dedicating the month to our enthusiastic sportsmen and women of our local sport clubs who provide us with the opportunity to enjoy and compete in our favourite sports.
Situated in Radloff Park, at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain - you couldn’t ask for a better setting for our local cricket club. The Somerset West Cricket Club is often described by cricket commentators as the most beautiful for club cricket in South Africa and it is also known as "little Newlands" because of the fabulous mountain in the background.
SWCC caters for everyone with a passion for cricket. There are 4 men’s teams and a ladies team this 2007 season. The youth league has approx 80 junior members that also take part in the Western Province League, and they have members as young as 7 taking part in mini-cricket.

The club has become a truly ‘all year round hockey club’, with our many teams participating in the winter outdoor leagues, the summer indoor leagues and the summer outdoor astro leagues. In 2006 they entered 19 teams across the respective leagues and every year they have a large number of their junior members representing the Western Province and Boland A sides. In 2006 the ladies first side ended fourth in the provinces top league, Grand Challenge.
The winter season is starting now, so join up for to experience the fun and excitement of this great team sport.
Baseball is on the rise in Somerset West! It’s not a traditional national sport for us, but because of the excitement of the game – the home runs, big hits and fast pace – baseball is fast becoming an exhilarating sport to both part take in and to watch.
Our local baseball club, the Helderberg Pirates was founded in 1952 and currently has its home at the Sports Complex in our picturesque Radloff Park.
