Shaping up

We've decided that it's time for us to get into shape!

[January 2007] What better time of the year is there for resolutions than the New Year - is there actually any other? Well, we've decided at Swest.info that it's time for us to get into shape and we want you to join us.

The question begs though, what can we possibly do besides take a boring jog around the block, which normally only lasts a week anyway? So we decided to do some Swest searching and we've come up with some fantastic ways to keep in shape…

Kung-Fu

Martial arts is becoming an increasing popular way of getting into shape while achieving very rewarding personal goals. The Kung-Fu School teaches two different martial arts, namely Tai Ji Quan and Wing Chun Kung Fu.

Tai Ji Quan is a martial art unlike any other. Martial arts like Shaolin Kung Fu and Karate focus on external or physical power. Tai Ji Quan, however, focuses on cultivating the internal energy of the body and expressing it outwards. Tai Ji Quan focuses on 3 primary areas: Health, Meditation and Martial Art.

Wing Chun Kuen was popularised by Bruce Lee and his teacher, Yip Man. Wing Chun does not have wild, jumping or vigorous movements but instead focusses on economy of movement, practicality and efficiency. It is ideal for people who want to learn self defence. You do not have to be physically strong or big if you want to be good at Wing Chun. Wing Chun is almost a "scientific" martial art with a very traditional flavour.

Martial arts is a fantastic way for you to learn an ancient discipline and achieve your body and health goals, and trust us, you'll get hooked!

Yoga

Change your life completely with Yoga. This discipline will not only help you to achieve a healthy lifestyle but it will challenge your mind, body and soul.

Yoga allows you to become toned, flexible and fit, but that's not the only benefits it offers. It creates the perfect balance in all the systems of the body - it tones the nervous system, releases anxiety and promotes inner harmony.

Yoga with Kay is a small, personal yoga studio which was started by instructor Kay Daneel 10 years ago. Her main goal is to help you release your stress and maintain a healthy body and centred mind. With her wealth of experience, you'll soon be relaxed, healthy and motivated.

Spinning

If you want fun, vibe and all out enthusiasm, spinning is just for you. Spinning allows you to cycle without having to worry about anything - the wind, the rain, the traffic and all the things that may put you off the open road. And even if you are a dedicated roadie, regular spinning classes will help you achieve your fitness goals to get you across that finish line at the Argus!

The Spinn Studio opened earlier this year, and has become fantastically popular already. The instructors are very professional, enthusiastic and full of fun - but that doesn't mean they don't work you hard - be prepared for a great workout. But don't let that scare you if you are a beginner, Spinning allows you to go at your own pace, so if you can't keep up to start with, nobody will even notice!

Get your health kicks

Now you can't do all that exercise and keep on going to that holiday 'sweetie draw' - we know you have one. It's time to eat healthy - remember, your body is your temple. So we've picked out some great ways to get your health kick started…

We hope you enjoy the healthy and fit new you - we are so far! Happy New Year to you all.
