Swest.info spoke to Mr Recycle, an incredibly enthusiastic company, who is dedicated to making recycling easy and cost effective in the Helderberg area.
Mr Recycle is a recyclable collection service that currently services many homes and businesses in the Helderberg area. Not only do they recycle, but they are creating jobs in the Helderberg for those who want to help.
Mr Recycle has recycled 58,000 kgs bottle glass, 2,500 kgs cardboard, 2,600 kgs assorted plastics and 2 800 kgs cooldrink cans since October 2006. They have been able to accomplish this by collecting recyclable materials not only from various socially and environmentally responsible businesses, but also a result of their Domestic Recyclable Collection Service, which only costs R20 per collection (under 15kg).
Why should you use Mr Recycle?
- Home or office collection
- Only one extra bin is needed
- Sorting is done for you
- Collection of unwanted or broken TV's, fridges etc.
- Recognition stickers are issued after 10th collection
- Job creation and environmental protection
- Low cost
How to be prepared for your collection?
- Have a separate bin or bag (black bin bags are most convenient) for your recyclable materials only.
- Recyclable materials include, plastic and glass bottles, paper, plastic, cardboard and metals.
- When the bin or bag is full of unsorted recyclables, call Mr Recycle on 079 138 9262 to book your collection and one of their representatives will collect the bags or containers of recyclables, at a collection fee of R20 per pickup (under 15 kg).
When can your collection take place?
- Somerset West - Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
- Gordons Bay - Monday
- Strand & Sir Lowry's Pass - Tuesday
- Minimum Advance Notice - 24 hours

- Free service
- R200 monthly contribution towards furthering the aims of Mr Recycle, (Sustainable Local Job Creation and Environmentally Responsible Recycling) which includes a Mr Recycle sticker which you may place in a prominent position, proving your commitment to Local Job Creation and Environment Friendly Recycling for the benefit of our community.
- R400 monthly contribution which entitles you to the Mr Recycle sticker and mention in all Mr Recycle marketing and our community’s thanks!
Mr Recycle is currently supported in its aims of Sustainable Local Job Creation from Environmentally Responsible Recycling by: Nameless Pub; San Francisco Spur; Seafarer Pub; Restaurant on Lourensford; Herald Info and Radio Helderberg.
