[April 2007] Play Tennis Somerset West is a first of it's kind in the area and it's a fun and exciting way for your kids to learn the game of tennis.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a professional tennis champion in our community. Nannie de Villiers has accomplished what most of us dream of. She has travelled the world on the professional tennis circuit and achieved fantastic results in many tournaments including the French Open and Wimbledon.
And now she's come home to Somerset West, to dedicate her time to coaching local talent. According to Nannie, "Somerset West has always been one of the most beautiful places in the world and believe me I've seen enough to be able to judge. The weather is great and I really feel lucky to be living here."
Nannie and sister, Elke Escreet, started Play Tennis Somerset West in January 2007, a fun tennis program for 3 to 8 year olds. There are a maximum of 8 children per group and they have one lesson per week during the school term. The program runs all year round and costs are R140 per month or R420 per term.
"I am really excited about this tennis program for kids and we have been getting great feedback from parents."
Nannie does a variety of formal and informal coaching. Under her expert guidance, semi-professional players could become the next South African champs and housewives have the opportunity to brush up their skills in the Housewife Beginners Club. She will also be doing some TV commentary work for Supersport this month.
"I really like the idea of helping tennis in this country return to that level of importance and good family fun it was when I grew up."
