Day in the life of Wayne Deglon
With a passion for art since childhood, I always knew I’d be involved in creativity. Owning and running my own business, Wayne Deglon Manufacturing Jewellers is exciting and inspiring but also incredibly challenging and demanding.
As the owner, I not only run the business but play an integral role in every aspect of the business from the daily tasks to designing and the actual making of the jewellery.
Every day I have to multi-task to make sure we are ready for business. I try to start off with the basics; placing orders, responding to emails and anything else in the office that needs my attention. Once that’s all done, I make sure I’m ready for my meetings with clients, which is incredibly important as I want to ensure I have a good understanding of their vision. Once I’ve been briefed it’s on to the designing of the jewellery – the best part! It doesn’t always work out this way and some days are far more hectic than others, but I love every aspect of my work and business.
I really enjoy consulting with clients and spend a lot of time on understanding what the client requires and the designing of the product, as it’s integral to get this right! Luckily I’m a very patient man as constant interruptions use up a lot of my design time! That’s why you will often see the lights burning at 3am when it’s just me and my designs.
I love the pure satisfaction when a client sees the end result and thanks me for all the hard work that went into it. The joy of my work is embedded in the client’s response. This keeps me motivated.
