Erinvale Golf Course

Designed by South African golfing champion, Gary Player, Erinvale golf course is indeed very special. The Golf World Cup took place at Erinvale in 1996, when Somerset West got to see the familiar faces of many world class golf players.

Erinvale golf course also boasts the magnificent views of both the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland mountains, making it a truly spectacular setting. The first 9 holes are in the valley of the Lourens River, while the second 9 holes go up the slopes of the Helderberg mountain, and come down again. Set amongst the extravagant homes of the Erinvale Estate, this golf course has to be one of the most beautiful in South Africa, if not the world.

Somerset West Golf Club

The Somerset West Golf Club dates back to 1903, when a piece of railway line drawn by 4 oxen, cleared enough bush and mole-runs to allow for a 9 hole 'course'.

Extended to 18 holes in later years, the Somerset West Golf course is set amongst big, beautiful and old trees. The greens are fairly large, and always in very good condition. The course is currently 5166 metres long, and while it appears flat and easy, it is deceptive. Seven of the holes have water perils and most greens are guarded by bunkers or hillocks.

Enjoy the Country Club feel of the course and look out for the White Squirrel's that live around the first nine holes.

Helderberg Village Golf Club

This 9 hole golf course was built for the residents of Helderberg Village, but visitors are more than welcome. The green fees are reasonable, the course is not over crowded and the views of the Helderberg mountain are spectacular.

Vodacom Golf Village

This immaculately manicured driving range is a favourite among locals who need to practice their golf swing. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Hottentots Holland Mountains the driving range is indeed spectacular. Floodlights allow for evening practice and you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at the resident pub and restaurant, Kilts. The driving range has a golf retail outlet and teaching professionals to help you master your golf swing.
