Wayne Deglon Manufacturing Jewellers

[September 2008] Have you ever wondered where talent comes from? Is it something you are born with or work towards? Perhaps it’s a bit of both. We had an opportunity to speak to Wayne Deglon who discovered his passion for art when he was a just a boy and turned it into a successful company right here in the heart of Somerset West.

While attending various workshops, Wayne was exposed to the art of jewellery and immediately took to it. He qualified in Johannesburg and then went on to work in London to further his knowledge at Ian Peters Master Jewellers. On his return to South Africa, Wayne decided to open his own business to reflect his style and passion of the art of jewellery.

His first business started in Gordon’s Bay in 1996 and after 6 years he moved Wayne Deglon Manufacturing Jewellers to Somerset West. We ask him why Somerset West? The answer was simple: The people are great, Somerset West is central, convenient and has great potential. And we agree!

Wayne offers his services regularly to the NH Lord Charles Hotel where he talks about the business of jewels and jewellery. He has a lot of local and foreign support and about half of his business comes from weddings.

With the wedding season almost in full swing, Wayne’s busiest time of the year is about to begin. So, what are the latest fashions in wedding and engagement rings? Wayne gladly comments that couples especially the younger generation tend to opt for white 18 carat gold or platinum rings set with diamonds. Although this is the preference, many of his clients have a specific style and design in mind that complements traditional yellow gold.

With the continuous growth in Somerset West and the increase in his client base, Wayne’s business is sure to thrive. He says that client loyalty is an important part of his business and not only do locals and foreigners adore his work, but they are incredibly impressed with the professional and proficient service they receive.
