Health Kick in Swest

Simple rules to follow

We are forever on a quest to be healthy, but are we getting it right? There are simple rules to a healthy diet and lifestyle, but the modern fast pace of life often leads us astray. A healthier lifestyle is easier to achieve than we think and the increase in energy and zest for life is incredibly rewarding.

Eating healthy

This is such a debated subject with millions of books on how to eat correctly, how to mix your foods correctly, what to stay away from and so much more.

To keep it simple here are a few tips to include in your daily life. It really doesn’t take much time or effort and they definitely help – we’ve tried them!

  1. Eat fruit for breakfast
  2. Try and eat a small salad before every meal
  3. Snack at tea time on fruit or dried fruit
  4. Don’t eat too much protein – we really don’t need that much

We can highly recommend Mary Anne Shearer who follows some of the principles above, but goes into far more details about how you can really ensure your body is in tip top shape thanks to the food you eat. It really is amazing how good you feel, even if you follow a few simple rules to start.

Stay Active

There are a huge variety of ways to stay active and keep our bodies in shape.

If you need a bit of help getting started there are amazing people just waiting for you, for example Lerien van Zyl Power Plate and Physiotheraphy Studio or a pilates, yoga or dance group. These environments allow for trained professionals to help you achieve your goals.

Sport is another perfect way to be fit and if you enjoy sporting activities, the options in Somerset West are simply endless! Tennis, golf, hockey, baseball, football, cricket, bowls, croquet and many other clubs are well established in the area and a great social way to stay active.

If the above options are just not possible and you simply don’t have the time to join any group or club, there are always fun and innovative ways to keep active.

  • Housework – you won’t believe how many calories vacuuming and sweeping take off, so a good hour or two of housework a day will keep you fit.
  • Take the kids or the dogs for a brisk walk around the block or to the park.
  • If you have stairs walk up and down a few times extra a day, stairs are brilliant to shed calories.
  • Gardening is another great way to keep active, depending on what you’re doing it can be a good work out!

And I’m sure there are so many other ideas of staying active within your own environment at home. So keep on looking for them.
