Baseball
A city away from the city with fresh air, nice people and miles and miles of views.
Helderberg Pirates was originally started in about 1952 and was known as Strand / Somerset West Baseball Club. The club originally operated from the "old rugby club" after which it moved to the Charles Morkel stadium in Strand. Then after a stint at the De Beers AFC soccer fields, the club eventually found it's own home at Radloff park in about 1995.
Pirates is an amateur baseball club dedicated to the training of men, children and women in the sport of baseball and softball. Baseball and softball are both summer sports and our season is from beggining of October to end of March. Training is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 17h15 to 18h30 for Juniors and 18h30 to 20h00 for seniors.
Pirates has grown from a club with only one senior mens team to a club with 4 senior mens teams, 2 ladies softball teams and 6 junior teams. A membership of about 70 senior men, 20 women and about 70 juniors reflects the healthy status of the club. Although baseball as a sport is marginalised by the national sport codes of cricket and rugby, particularly at schools, it is our opinion that the exciting nature of the game lends itself to growth both at player and spectator level.
Pirates Baseball Club rocks!
